Edmonton’s 2013-2014 Broadway Season Will Feature War Horse, Les Miserables and More

A trusty horse and a band of revolutionaries will be storming into Edmonton. The 2013-2014 Broadway season will feature the Tony Award-winning play War Horse and the international hit Les Miserables, in addition to the classic musical West Side Story. All shows will play the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium.

The 25th anniversary production of Les Miserables, based on Victor Hugo’s classic novel, will run from July 9, 2013 through July 14. The story follows ex-convict Jean Valjean as he travels down a road of redemption, faith and love against the backdrop of an uprising in France. The beloved musical includes the classic songs “I Dreamed a Dream,” “On My Own” and “One Day More.”

War Horse, winner of five Tony Awards, will run from September 17, 2013 through September 22. Using extraordinary puppets, War Horse tells the story of young Albert and his beloved horse, Joey, who is sold to the cavalry and shipped to France at the outbreak of World War I. Albert, unable to forget Joey and still not old enough to enlist, embarks on a mission to find his horse and bring him home.

Get ready to fall in love when West Side Story opens in Edmonton on February 18, 2014 and runs through February 23. When young lovers Tony and Maria unexpectedly meet and fall for each other, the tension that has been building between the rival gangs that inhabit their New York City neighborhood explodes. The beloved score by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim features such classics as “Something’s Coming,” “I Feel Pretty” and “Tonight.”
